Days 6 and 7
Yesterday was another beautiful day. Spent some time outside with the in-laws preparing the garden for seeds and getting the shed cleaned out for the chickens we will have in about a month. Grandpa arrived in the afternoon to visit for the weekend and then drive home on Sunday with Grandma. I find that the increased energy is such a blessing. I hope to continue eating healthy after the detox and maintain the weight loss and especially the energy.
This morning I weighed in and have a total of 5 pounds lost!!
I was so constipated the past two days I decided to take drastic measures. I am familiar with senna teas and I know they are powerful laxatives, but I really want to clean out and be regular! Just before bed, I followed the directions for the tea (Traditional Medicinals' Chocolate Smooth Move, yes, that really is the name) letting it steep the minimum time of ten minutes. Got up this morning after about an hour, nothing was happening, so I went for my second cup, this time steeping it for 15 minutes, well that was my intention, but baby distracted me so it was closer to twenty. Fast forward 3 hours and I'm literally racing to the bathroom every five minutes for about 30 minutes. Trying to stay hydrated drinking teas (not laxative teas!) and we had the "free" soup for lunch, tomato dill from Nourishing Traditions Cookbook. It was so yummy. With about two bites left in my bowl, the fun started again. Another 30 minutes of racing to the bathroom.
So this afternoon I feel a little tired and very hungry. CAREFUL with any tea that contains senna.
Which brings me to my next point, my "breaking point" that is. Being tired and hungry and having a crabby baby who refuses her afternoon nap and will not let anyone else hold her is what I call the perfect storm. Perfect food storm, that is. Confession time. I cheated, and not with cheater's free soup. With a slice of swiss cheese. And two of my hubby's taquitos (little rolled tacos, probably fried in oil, find them in the frozen food section :) And a handful of Old Dutch potato chips. So now I'm waiting for the fall out from this little feast. Boy it tasted good. Probably will disagree with me soon though. Grandma and Grandpa went out to run errands, so at least Grandma wasn't here to witness the incident and be tempted. Though I can see how it probably wouldn't have happened if she were here AND how difficult this will become after she leaves on Sunday. When hubby is working and it is just me and the baby. No accountability! Well, except for this blog and my good friends who are starting Sunday, nice timing friends :)
I'll be sure to post any negative side effects from eating taquitos and potato chips. I'm sure if I continue to cheat I'll see less than stellar results from the detox. The key is to stay full, so I should have had some soup before my hunger got out of hand! And kept up with the water and tea. I am 1/3 of the way through, I can do this. I am not throwing the towel in yet. Just have to remember, swiss cheese will still exist in 14 days. Unfortunately, potato chips and taquitos will also still exist in 14 days!
Now baby has realized she can reach the volume knob on the stereo again. "Too loud, baby!" We have no where else to put it, it has already moved to a higher shelf. OK, have to turn that down now.
Blessings to all!
Day 6 for Grandma ~ WOW I am so pleased that this detox gave me so much more energy, I lost the puffiness in my face, and I lost 7 POUNDS!!!!
ReplyDeleteI agreed to this radical detox with JP to cleanse my colon of the caffeine, sodium, and other environmental toxins. I figured since I was loosing weight and eating healthy I might loose 3 pounds. So happy.
I will begin my 4 days of coming off this cleanse tomorrow. Making pico de gallo for my first un-mushed food in a week. Tomorrow I get to add a cup of unblended fruit and a cup of raw vegies. Having salad with pico de gallo. YUMMY!
I would never attempt to do this detox alone the way JP and I did it. I would do this detox without a partner, but would use the store bought natural fruit blends instead of trying to juice several times a day in addition to making and blending the soups. Just saying...we spend a lot of time cleaning and juicing this last week. Don't get me wrong...totally worth it. I feel great and lost weight. But...there's no way I will continue to spend this much time preparing my food.
I'm so happy JP invited me to do this cleanse, and even happier I lost some weight and feel great. Planning on doing the detox again.
My goal is to keep 1/2 the weight off that I lost while I reintroduce regular, non-gruelish food into my "baby" digestive system.
yeah, the side effects of my cheater's feast were more quick trips to the bathroom. See Jenny Run. And this morning my hands are swollen, probably due to the rush of sodium. My weight stayed the same. No loss (or gain) :) I hope I can manage this after Grandma leaves. Only time will tell.
